Overview
Driver is responsible for transporting clients to and from medical appointments and other appointments as needed. The Driver completes assignments and all paperwork in a timely fashion.
Responsibilities- Transport individuals with and without disabilities to various locations, including picking up at residence and returning.
- Review transportation schedule before departure; bring any issues to dispatch or coordinator.
- Perform vehicle inspections and maintenance, ensuring fuel, oil, antifreeze, wash fluid, and accessibility equipment functional.
- Clean interior and exterior of the vehicle as directed.
- Notify manager when vehicle needs repair or service.
- Maintain a driving log and track mileage on the vehicle.
- Ensure safety equipment on board and vehicle tires in good condition.
- Make copies and file all driver’s reports, transportation requests, vehicle inspection forms.
- Maintain contact with dispatch; cell phone must be charged daily and in good working order.
- Report any accident/incident immediately upon return; complete written report within 24 hrs.
- Assist passengers with disabilities.
- Notify customers of any changes in arrival/departure times.
- Maintain good customer relations and services.
- Follow driving laws including seat belt usage.
- Handle other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED and one year of experience driving a van or bus.
- Experience working with the senior population is a plus.
- Good driving skills and communication skills.
- Familiar with geographic layout of Wayne County, VA hospitals and University of Michigan Hospital.
- Valid Michigan Chauffeur’s license required; CDL license Class B with passenger endorsement preferred.
- Able to operate cell phone, two‑way radios, GPS systems and general office equipment.
- First Aid/CPR Certified and able to operate an AED.
- Heaving lifting required.
