Security Electronics Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Security Electronics Engineer to join the Security Electronics Department and contribute to the design and delivery of advanced security electronics systems for existing and new detention facilities. This role focuses on low-voltage systems, relay logic controls, and CAD-based design, and involves full lifecycle responsibility from initial design and submittals through fabrication drawings, procurement documents, installation drawings, testing documentation, and project close-out.
You will work closely with engineering, CAD, purchasing, fabrication, project management, and field installation teams, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure each project is delivered accurately, on time, and within budget.
- Design and develop detailed drawings, layouts, and wiring schematics for security electronics systems using CAD software such as Micro Station and AutoCAD.
- Collaborate with CAD operators to develop, review, and refine accurate and precise technical drawings.
- Prepare comprehensive system design and installation documentation for security electronics and locking systems.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations relevant to security electronics and detention facilities.
- Perform thorough quality checks on drawings to verify technical accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Maintain organized records of all design documents, revisions, and project-related technical files.
- Create, distribute, and maintain submittals, bills of materials (BOMs), and close-out documents for assigned projects.
- Generate purchase requisitions, coordinate with purchasing, and track material delivery to support project schedules.
- Ensure projects are designed and delivered within established budget and schedule requirements.
- Provide regular updates on project progress and status to project management and other stakeholders.
- Participate in project meetings to discuss design progress, resolve technical issues, and align on project objectives.
- Coordinate design details for door control systems and wiring harness product lines, ensuring accurate schematics and documentation.
- Detail schematic drawings for relays, power supplies, terminal/dial blocks, and related low-voltage components.
- Support coordination with fabrication and field installation teams to facilitate smooth installation and commissioning of systems.
- Occasionally travel to job sites to gather information, verify conditions, and support field teams with design-related questions.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software, particularly Micro Station (2D) and AutoCAD, with the ability to produce detailed electrical and hardware design drawings.
- Hands-on experience creating and detailing schematic drawings for relays, power supplies, terminal or dial blocks, and related low-voltage components.
- Practical knowledge of security electronics systems, including low-voltage systems, relay logic control systems, communication systems, and camera systems.
- Ability to create detailed system drawings and wiring layouts that are clear, accurate, and compliant with technical standards.
- Solid understanding of electrical design principles, hardware design, and schematic drawing practices.
- Proficiency with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office programs for documentation, reporting, and communication.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of design, documentation, and quality checking.
- Strong understanding of technical drawing standards and industry best practices for electrical and electronics design.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with engineering, CAD, purchasing, fabrication, project management, and field installation teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high quality standards.
- Capability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot design and coordination issues.
