Position: CT Technologist Weekend, Full Time, Days
Overview

Under the direction of the Radiology Director and a radiologist, performs a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Operates CT/X-Ray equipment to produce quality images/radiographs of designated body parts. Must be available for emergency on-call procedures as required. Recognizes the need for pain control/assessment for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Under the direction of a Radiologist, produces high-quality radiographs across all patient age groups.
  • Explains procedures to patients.
  • Positions and immobilizes patients for procedures.
  • Selects appropriate technical factors for specific body parts.
  • Reviews images for quality and accuracy of positioning.
  • Willingly assists in Radiology or other departments within Imaging when needed.
  • Assists Radiologist with Invasive Procedures
  • Prepares the room properly for specific procedures.
  • Practices principles of sterile technique.
  • Labels items on trays according to Joint Commission standards.
  • Selects appropriate procedure trays/instruments needed.
  • Obtains images as requested by Radiologist to facilitate diagnosis.
  • Maintains Patient and Personal Safety
  • Provides radiation protection to all patients as needed.
  • Practices personal radiation safety measures to minimize occupational exposure levels annually.
  • Follows good body mechanics when lifting.
  • Uses appropriate transfer techniques based on patient condition.
  • Verifies patient identity using two approved identifiers.
  • Administers Contrast Media
  • Administers IV contrast as directed by Radiologist.
  • Assesses patients for contrast media sensitivity prior to venipuncture.
  • Attends annual in-service on venipuncture techniques.
  • Performs venipuncture as required.
  • PACS
  • Completes all exams in PACS timely.
  • Prepares patient CDs properly.
  • Verifies that physician orders match PACS entries.
  • Ensures all images are in PACS, scans required documents, and adds notes as needed.
  • Operates film digitizer to add films to PACS.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

    • Education/Licensure: Completed AMA-approved Radiologic Technologist training program; eligible for ARRT registry. CT registry preferred.
    • Experience: No experience required but preferred.
    • Additional Skills/Abilities: BLS certification required before the end of orientation; excellent communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent task changes.
