Wastewater Inspections Coordinator

Department: Gas/Water/Wastewater Operations

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: 10th Avenue Service Center

Operates Electroscan/CCTV equipment to inspect wastewater mains by performing the following duties.

  • Responds to incoming requests for main line inspections based on preventative maintenance schedules and determines the optimum method of conducting an inspection based on field conditions.
  • Deploys Electroscan/CCTV equipment and conducts the inspection by directing the movement of the unit(s) through the wastewater system, identifying defects throughout the inspection.
  • Observes, records and documents conditions and reports observations by taking appropriate scans, video recordings and photographs.
  • Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and problems.
  • Reads and interprets maps, construction drawings and blueprints.
  • Must have knowledge of basin locations in DU system and understand the flow characteristics of the wastewater collection system.
  • Uses computer in highly technical environment, using various computer programs and databases and other office equipment.
  • Maintains Electroscan/CCTV equipment in good operating condition by adjusting, cleaning, lubricating and performing minor repairs.
  • Maintains accurate records for all Electroscan/CCTV inspections and line cleaning work.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs quality control/assurance inspections as required of new wastewater construction installation, pipe and manhole rehabilitation, and smoke testing projects.
  • Performs locates for all rehab contractors as needed.
  • Performs as backup rehab coordinator as needed.
  • Interacts with customers and plumbers as needed to determine sources of customer owned wastewater issues.
  • Assists other crew members when necessary.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • High School diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years additional relevant work-related experience and or specialized training.
  • Ability to read, interpret and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and short correspondence.
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers and customers.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel) as required to perform job tasks. This may include using software applications for email, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Required to use Internet Explorer to navigate online Employee Self Serve webpage for personal payroll, benefit and employee information.
  • Field employees may be required to use a laptop or other mobile device to complete service tickets, work orders and lookup GIS information.
  • Uses Granite Net software and Electroscan Critical Sewers applications on the computer for sewer main inspections.
  • Ability to perform and/or solve routine mathematical calculations and problems.
  • Ability to perform these concepts using basic high school mathematics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, ratios, percentages, time, distance and weight measurement.
  • Ability to use some judgment to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form to perform routine calculations, solve problems and organize information for reports.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to seize, grasp or turn; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear.
  • Required to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision and distance vision.
