Utility Locator

Department: Gas/Water/Wastewater Operations

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: 10th Avenue Service Center

Reporting To: Gas & Water Operations Superintendent

Description

Performs locate services for electric, fiber, gas, water, and wastewater systems in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Locates marks DU facilities, including Electric, Fiber, Gas, Water, and Wastewater system for contractors, sub-contractors, customers, and DU crews as required.
  • Installs permanent line markers when appropriate to ensure the safety of facilities and customers.
  • Documents locates through the use of web-based data entry, written reports and or photographs as necessary.
  • Reads and interprets maps and work order assignments.
  • Recommends process changes to improve the accuracy of locates.
  • Performs maintenance and repair to locating equipment and assigned vehicles.
  • Assists EGWWW operations crews with line locating when needed.
  • Assists with Measurement Tech duties.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • High School diploma or GED and minimum
  • 1-2 years of utility locating experience preferred
  • Previous experience with construction crew locating is applicable.
  • Ability to read, interpret and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and short correspondence.
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, customers, and contractors.
  • Requires ability to communicate via radio and cellular phone.
