Job Summary

Performs electrical apparatus work onsite at customer facilities. This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the execution of mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.
  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and written diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation.
  • Assist in the following tests:
    • Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance.
    • Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper.
    • Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.
  • Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.
  • Ability to assist in complex mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Must have strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge is preferred; training will be provided.
  • Consistently on time for daily assignments, meetings, and training.
  • Organizational skills, including timely reporting of time, expenses, weekly status reports, and other documentation.
  • Responsibility for keeping tools, test equipment, and vehicles clean, organized, and up to date with service and calibrations.
Work Environment
  • Willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office.
  • Corporate business hours Monday‑Friday 7:30 am‑4:30 pm; on‑call or overtime may be required.
  • Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations.
  • Must be able to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Must be able to travel overnight, multi‑day, out‑of‑town projects.
  • Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies promptly.
Education and Work Experience
  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning is preferred.
  • This role is considered an introductory position; a mechanical aptitude and an attitude eager to learn are valuable.
Other Requirements
  • Must pass a pre‑employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test and periodic, unannounced random testing.
  • Valid driver’s license required; willing to obtain a combined vehicle weight endorsement up to 26 k lbs.
  • Must lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
  • Willing to obtain a company‑paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
