Assists with the planning, development and coordination of Women’s Resource Center children’s program. Children’s Advocate will implement services through a trauma informed approach designed to promote positive parent/ child interactions and resiliency.
Responsibilities- Assist parents in picking up their children from local daycare utilizing a 15-passenger van.
- Assist parents with transportation to other appointments or needed services (i.e. urgent care, emergency room, pick up from after school activities, pick up prescriptions, etc.).
- Support parents to establish an evening routine for their children to include dinner time, bath time and bed time.
- Facilitate an evening family activity to help foster parent/ child relationships and help children wind down for the evening (i.e. meditation, story time, mindfulness activity, yoga, etc.).
- Support parents to foster healthy eating habits and family discussions during dinner.
- Recognize when a parent may be feeling overwhelmed and need extra support and provide services accordingly (i.e. soothe a crying baby while mom attends to a toddler, assist a child with homework while mom prepares dinner, help monitor children and ensure they eat dinner when mom may be running late getting home from work, etc.).
- Support parents to develop and/or improve other skills related to parenting such as organization, positive discipline, time management, etc.
- Provide structured activities for children to participate in while parents participate in evening activities such as support group, therapy, Making Change workshops, etc.
- Provide support to safe house staff on the crisis line or managing the household as needed.
- Document all activities and interactions with families by established due dates.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- experience driving and transporting children in a 15-passenger van
- commitment to providing compassionate, trauma-informed services in partnership with survivors
- ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations
- patience for working with children and adults who may exhibit challenging behaviors
