General SummaryResponsible for the direction, management and implementation of institutional research and effectiveness functions designed to support institutional decision‑making, assessment, planning, policy formation and compliance within the guidelines of federal, state, and local laws, and office, division and college policies and procedures. Reports to Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Board and works with faculty, staff and on‑ and off‑campus constituents.
EssentialJob Functions
- Collect, analyze, interpret, and contextualize data and intelligence about the college’s students, faculty, staff, alumnae, courses, curriculum, finances and other relevant topics.
- Disseminate data and intelligence about the college to internal and external audiences, such as IPEDS and U.S. News & World Report, providing appropriate levels of context, aggregation and recommendations; maintain OIRE web presence.
- Oversee the administration and/or coordination of a regular cycle of institutional surveys, including effective use of results in assessment and planning efforts.
- Participate in the collection and governance of data required to support data‑informed, evidence‑based decision making related to institutional effectiveness.
- Provide leadership in developing, implementing and maintaining an institutional assessment program through oversight of the Director of Institutional Assessment and in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs.
- Ensure that the college reviews student success goals and outcomes, evaluating their consistency with mission and strategy and monitoring external and internal benchmarks; recommend appropriate measurement and evaluation approaches.
- Lead and/or complete special projects requested by college leadership, focusing on providing actionable intelligence and decision support.
- Serve on a wide range of institutional committees and working groups related to planning and institutional effectiveness, including, but not limited to, academic assessment, data governance, and strategic planning.
- Monitor trends and issues in higher education, anticipating future data and research needs of the college.
- Provide internal consultation on the planning, implementation, analysis and reporting of ad‑hoc research and assessment studies.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, information sharing and data‑informed decision making.
- Provide ongoing supervision to the Director of Institutional Assessment and student workers.
Master’s‑level credential in research, measurement, assessment and/or evaluation, or any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities of the position. PhD or EdD preferred.
ExperienceMinimum of three years of professional experience in higher education research and planning.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Expertise in higher education research methods and approaches.
- Expertise in data collection, analysis, synthesis, interpretation, and presentation.
- Knowledge and understanding of principles of measurement and evaluation.
- Experience with higher education enterprise systems, and familiarity with database structure and querying tools.
- Knowledge of current trends and issues in higher education and an understanding of institutional practices and operations.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across divisions and college constituencies (staff, faculty, executive leadership, governing board, etc.), demonstrating leadership where appropriate and good judgment related to confidentiality and prioritization.
- Ability to present complex material effectively to individual groups with diverse levels of expertise and knowledge.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, integrity and contextualization of data.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
