Role DescriptionThe After school Paraprofessional is a part-time, on-site role located in Decatur, GA. This position supports students in an after school setting by assisting with homework, reinforcing classroom learning, and facilitating enrichment activities in a safe, structured environment. The After school Paraprofessional helps implement program curricula, promotes positive social and emotional development, and models respectful, inclusive interactions. Typical responsibilities include supervising small groups, maintaining accurate attendance and documentation, communicating student needs and progress to program staff, and assisting with set-up and clean-up of daily activities.
The role also involves following organizational policies and safety procedures, and collaborating with teammates to create a supportive, trauma-informed space for all participants.
- Experience working with children or adolescents in educational, after school, or youth development settings, preferably in diverse communities.
- Ability to support academic activities, including homework help and basic tutoring in core subjects such as reading, writing, and math.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries.
- Commitment to mental health awareness, trauma-informed practices, and creating an inclusive, non-judgmental environment for all participants.
- Organizational and time-management skills to manage group activities, transitions, and documentation reliably.
- Ability to follow program guidelines, safety procedures, and directives from supervisors while contributing ideas to improve programming.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or a degree in education, psychology, social work, or related fields is preferred.
- Ability to stand, move, and actively engage with children during program hours, and to pass any required background checks.
