Job Summary & Location

As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Acuity, you create and sustain next-generation, energy-efficient, intelligent, wired and wireless lighting control systems for commercial and industrial applications. The ideal candidate will have a broad base of knowledge that includes digital and analog circuit design, sensor integration, and networking in high-volume, high-reliability applications. All aspects of product development are in scope, from ideation and system architecture to delivering designs that can be efficiently manufactured in high volume and sustaining the solutions, including engineering support.

Prior experience working with commercial automation systems (e.g., lighting control, building management, industrial control) or consumer electronics (e.g., home automation, security, sensors, PC peripherals) is highly desirable.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design, model, and test mixed-signal processor-based electronics; design and source PCBs; specify and source electronic components; specify and manage firmware.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to optimize system-level integration and performance.
  • Evaluate existing and emerging technologies to identify solutions reliably operating in various installed environments.
  • Clearly communicate design and component constraints and trade‑offs to other team members and management, playing an advisory role as a subject matter expert to ensure optimal design decisions.
  • Evaluate the Intellectual Property (IP) landscape to identify risks created by existing IP and opportunities for developing valuable new IP.
  • Design and support products according to relevant electrical code and laboratory standards, as well as support the UL / CSA testing and listing process for products.
  • Design and support wireless communication products that comply with FCC part 15 and manage submissions for compliance testing.
  • Work closely with manufacturing to ensure that designs meet manufacturability and testing criteria and sustain these products in manufacturing.
  • Develop and distribute engineering data in the form of Engineering Change Notices, Bills of Material, and parts tracking.
  • Perform system integration and validation testing activities, including verification of interoperability with customer‑supplied peripherals.
  • Mentor junior team members on technical and professional subjects to strengthen their capabilities and those of the overall team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE), or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience is preferred.
  • Expertise in analog and digital low‑voltage circuit design, PCB design, and layout using Altium or a similar software package.
  • Expertise in AC-DC, DC-DC power supplies, power electronics, and AC circuit protection preferred.
  • Expertise in designing wireless products that comply with FCC part 15 certifications.
  • Experience in modeling, P‑SPICE simulation, circuit analysis, worst‑case thermal analysis, MTBF, and product lifetime expectancy calculation.
