Lab Supervisor (Watershed Management) — DeKalb County Government
Salary Range: $64,893 - $104,479;
Grade 21; FLSA:
Exempt
The purpose of this classification is to manage and instruct Laboratory and Monitoring Branch personnel in the performance of duties for the Industrial Waste/Pretreatment Program and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Monitoring Program.
Essential Functions- Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities to meet objectives; ensures subordinates have the proper resources; monitors progress and inspects completed work; provides technical guidance; prepares progress/activity reports to management; assists in updating procedure manuals as appropriate.
- Ensures daily plant operations meet or exceed state and federal regulations (EDP/EPA); analyzes operational data and plant compliance monitoring data; performs periodic microscopic examination of activated sludge.
- Ensures operators follow standard operating procedures established by plant management and the EPA; regularly inspects plant equipment and the plant laboratory.
- Trains and instructs plant operators in proper equipment operation and maintenance; troubleshoots deviations; revises SOPs for new equipment; maintains files, records, readings, and logs; ensures accuracy of recorded information.
- Schedules tasks and training for plant operators; coordinates weekly safety meetings.
- Confers with engineers, vendors, and other managers regarding plant operation and maintenance; attends weekly planning meetings with upper management and engineering firms.
- Makes requisitions of chemicals, equipment, and supplies; maintains daily inventory and acquisition of chemicals; reviews calibration of plant measuring equipment.
- Evaluates operator performance; maintains records of operator and equipment performance; designs forms and check sheets for plant operations and daily laboratory procedures.
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field; five years of experience in chemical or biological analysis or related field, including two years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and must possess and maintain a State of Georgia Wastewater Laboratory License.
