Systems Administrator, Principal (Platform Technologies) –
DeKalb County Government

The purpose of this classification is to independently administer the County's largest, most complex and critical information systems; plan and implement departmental and enterprise solutions for County-wide and multi-agency systems as assigned; and provide lead guidance and direction to less experienced Systems Administrators.

Salary Range: $68,778 - $110,732

• Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned co‑workers; obtains direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks to complete work; monitors status and inspects completed work; assists with complex/problem situations; provides technical expertise; supports training and instruction of co‑workers; and aids in supervision by reporting employee problems and providing input on disciplinary action and performance evaluations.
• Defines requirements, plans, researches, and evaluates the capability of technology systems; coordinates, configures, installs and maintains hardware, software, backup and restore devices, databases, security solutions and peripheral devices; orchestrates installation, conversion, testing, and initial customer training.
• Supports network system access; defines, recommends, implements and maintains enterprise server and workstation components; sets up accounts for new employees and closes accounts when no longer required; manages access levels; establishes port connections; resolves network problems; limits user access; and documents procedures and changes.
• Performs network administration; configures, operates and maintains programs, databases, and infrastructure‑related systems; manages and configures servers; backs up and monitors event logs; analyzes potential problems; monitors performance and security; upgrades servers; adds/deletes computers to/from the network; manages user and email accounts and passwords; and maintains related database and server software.
• Provides technical support and training to system users; troubleshoots programs, databases, and infrastructure‑related systems; resolves problems; escalates to vendors or other personnel; and ensures continual operation of customers’ network applications while utilizing diagnostic tools.
• Supports development and implementation of new technology; researches and evaluates computer systems, software, and technology issues; develops technology solutions; advises departments on technology business strategies; evaluates information systems and communications requests; and works with vendors to implement new or upgrade existing technology.
• Maintains awareness of new applications, technologies, technical methods, trends, and advances; reviews professional publications, technical manuals, and websites; and attends conferences, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Five years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration within a large‑scale information technology environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license, which must be possessed and maintained.
