Overview

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is a leading non‑profit that serves the community through education, wellness, youth development, and community building. In 2024, we provide high‑quality literacy, STEAM learning, sports, aquatics, camps, leadership programs, and member services to thousands of children, teens, and adults.

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Review and execute all emergency procedures, respond immediately to emergencies, and complete required reports.
• Apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areas consistently.
• Maintain accurate records required by the YMCA and local or state health authorities.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Conduct chemical testing when not guarding as required and take appropriate action.
• Maintain certifications in CPR‑O, YMCA Lifeguard, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, and other required training.
• Assist as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community.
• Attend all staff meetings and monthly in‑service training.
• Show up 15 minutes prior to shift start time.
• Wear the approved YMCA uniform (lifeguard shirt, colored shorts, swimsuit, lifeguard tube, fanny pack, and break‑away lanyard with whistle).
• Other duties as assigned.

• Minimum age of 16.
• Certifications:
  
  Basic Life Support or Professional Rescuer CPR/AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent (must be upgraded in the first 60 days if not already held).
• Ability to respond promptly to safety and emergency situations.
• Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality.

• Pass a pre‑employment background check:
  Criminal Record check, Drug Screening, and Motor Vehicle Record.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
