Decatur Middle School is seeking a highly motivated Alternative Program Facilitator who will lead and implement a school-based intervention and instruction program designed for middle school students (Grades 7–8) who qualify for alternative placement under Indiana Code IC 20-33-8-25. This role focuses on ensuring educational continuity, behavior intervention, and support for student reintegration.
Job Qualifications/Requirements- Valid Indiana Teaching License (Grades 5–12 or appropriate subject/area)
- Experience working with at-risk youth or in alternative education settings
- Strong behavior management and communication skills
- Proficiency in classroom technologies and educational software.
- Training in PBIS, CPI, SEL, or trauma-informed care
- Familiarity with online learning platforms such as Apex, Canvas, Exact Path, and Courseware
- Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
- Ability to engage students in learning, fostering academic and personal growth.
- Demonstrates commitment to the academic and emotional well-being of all students.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for the subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students' needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Coordinate a structured, alternative academic program aligned with Indiana Academic Standards.
- Provide direct instruction and facilitate in-person and virtual learning for students.
- Implement behavioral and restorative strategies to promote student accountability and success.
- Collaborate with staff, families, and community resources to build individualized re-entry plans.
- Maintain compliance with IDOE Alternative Education Guidelines and maintain records for state reporting.
- Monitor and report student progress academically, behaviorally, and socially.
- Serve as liaison with referring administrators, case managers, and service providers.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment, maintains inventory records, and ensures resources are in good working order.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
