The Macon County Merit Commission will be receiving applications to establish an eligibility list for Deputy Sheriffs. The application process opens on October 1, 2026, and closes on October 23, 2026. Notification will be made through our website and social media sites.

Salary and BenefitsDeputy Sheriff starting salary is $64,232.77. Uniforms are provided by the Macon County Sheriff's Office. Health/dental insurance and the SLEP Retirement Fund are offered to all deputies.
Training RequirementsIndividuals hired as Deputy Sheriff must successfully complete application through Merit Commission hiring process and will have a 1 year probationary period.
Qualifications- Must be 21 years of age by start of MCLETC academy date
- Must have vision corrected to 20/20
- Graduated High School or possess a G.E.D
- Have a valid Illinois Driver's License
- Have no felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions
