The Access Services Assistant participates on the Circulation team within Preus Library to provide circulation and basic information access services. The Access Services Assistant is also the point person during scheduled shifts for Preus Library building concerns and the management of access services equipment. Supervisory responsibilities include management of library student staff productivity.
Pay$13.87 - $16.32
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAll members of the Circulation Team, including the Access Services Assistant, carry shared responsibility for providing access to information in Preus Library and providing circulation and basic information services.
- Opening, closing, and attentive oversight of Preus Library.
- Attention to a quality customer service environment for all circulation and related help services to support the academic mission of Luther College as an institution of higher education.
- Proper management of the print collection.
- Assistance with all forms of service found at the circulation desk, including checkouts, problem resolutions, inventory management, basic information questions, and logging of transactions.
- Close Preus Library on Fridays.
- Open Preus Library on Saturdays.
- Oversee circulation responsibilities (checkouts, returns, reshelving) during scheduled shifts.
- Provide basic information services (in-person, phone, and email).
- Serve as point person for Preus Library security or equipment concerns during scheduled shifts.
- Supervision of productivity of library student employees working at the Circulation desk.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Circulation Desk student workers.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required;
Bachelor's or Associate's degree preferred. - Experience:
Previous experience in a library environment is preferred. - Vision and experience in quality customer service and support.
- The ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
- Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results from a background check and verification of credentials.
