Assistant Professor of Nordic Studies

Luther College seeks an assistant professor of Nordic studies to contribute to our commitment to academic excellence in teaching, research, and community service beginning Fall 2026. This three‑year appointment will end in support of a three‑year tenure‑track with annual reappointment based on performance and college need.

Responsibilities
  • Teach six courses per year across fall, winter, and spring terms, including introductory, intermediate, and advanced language courses in Norwegian, literature and film courses taught in translation, and optionally courses in the general education curriculum at Luther.
  • Develop and offer courses in additional areas such as art, environmental studies, Norwegian‑American studies, political science, international studies, management, and cultural studies as needed.
  • Engage in program development, student recruitment, advising, and departmental and college service.
  • Collaborate with community partners such as Vesterheim Museum and pursue research that involves undergraduate students.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Nordic Studies or related field, or be ABD by September 1, 2026.
  • Strong teaching experience and a commitment to inclusive and belonging practices.
  • Demonstrated potential for research and mentoring undergraduates.
  • Knowledge of language pedagogy and contemporary Nordic region is especially encouraged.
