SUMMARY

Place and detonate explosives to demolish structures or to losen, remove, or displace earth, rock or other materials in accordance with Olson Explosives, Inc.’s safety procedures. Included in this process is handling of seismograph equipment, blast equipment and electronic detonating equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Obtain and/or Maintain Class B CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements.
  • Load trucks and ensure you have all necessary equipment, prior to leaving for your blast site.
  • Load holes according to Lead Blaster instructions.
  • Attend safety meeting on job site prior to loading any holes; provide input to blaster-in-charge whenever necessary, following job assignments given by Lead Blaster.
  • Assist with bi-weekly inventory verification – quantity totals and date code verification.
  • Perform maintenance work on equipment and trucks when not reporting to a job site. This includes oil changes, painting trucks, tires maintenance, cleaning trucks, etc.
  • Ability to work early mornings, departure for a jobsite is generally in the early hours of the morning between 3-7 AM.
  • Ability to lift and carry 55 lb cases of product.
  • Assist with paperwork before, during and after a shot, accurate paperwork is a vital part of this job.
  • Comply with Olson Explosives, Inc. safety and security policy and MSHA regulations at all times.
  • Independently deliver customer orders to work site or quarry locations.
  • Knowledge and ability to comply with Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE).
  • Work with all other employees as a team, at all times.
  • Occasionally available for overnight stays near customer locations
  • Occasional weekend availability for work assignments
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Position shall perform such other duties as are assigned by the employee’s Manager or Officers of Olson Explosives, Inc. Maintain education and professional expertise through attendance at job related seminars, conferences, and workshops.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two to three years related construction industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Desire to possess explosives industry related endorsements and continuing education. Commercial Driver’s License with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements are required for this position.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers (owners, managers, employees), land owners, adjoining neighbors, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts on shot reports, bill of ladings, shipping records, driver logs, etc. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to operate commercial motor vehicles, a bulk truck, seismograph equipment, and blast equipment. Must be able to operate PC, printer, copier, fax machine, and smart phone.
