Commercial Lender – Job Description Overview

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lender to join our team and play a key role in growing and managing client relationships. The ideal candidate will be a proactive banker who can generate new business, structure and close complex transactions, and provide ongoing portfolio management while maintaining strong credit quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of commercial clients across industries such as manufacturing, professional services, real estate, and healthcare.
  • Source new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, and building Centers of Influence (COIs).
  • Analyze financial statements, cash flow, collateral, and other credit factors to structure sound lending solutions.
  • Partner with credit and underwriting teams to prepare and present loan packages for approval.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions, prepare term sheets, and lead the closing process for commercial loans.
  • Maintain regular contact with clients to provide exceptional service, monitor credit performance, and cross-sell additional banking products (treasury management, deposits, merchant services, etc.).
  • Stay current on market trends, industry developments, and competitor activity to identify new opportunities.
  • Represent the bank in the community through involvement in local organizations, events, and professional associations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial lending, credit analysis, or relationship management.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial loan products, underwriting principles, and the 5 Cs of credit.
  • Proven track record of new business development and portfolio growth.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
