As an Advanced Systems Administration Specialist, you’ll serve as a front‑line interface to users with technical issues by conducting systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies. Your duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications, and training users. You’ll also be responsible for the day‑to‑day support of server services by performing server administration for physical and virtual server operating systems, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting physical and virtual hardware and network‑related interfaces on servers.
And, you’ll perform OS and vendor software patching on servers and monitor physical and virtual server performance using monitoring tools.
A Systems Admin Specialist is responsible for maintaining and supporting the company’s technology infrastructure. This includes installing and updating software, managing servers and networks, and troubleshooting any technical issues. They may also be involved in security efforts, ensuring data protection and compliance with company policies.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for managing the functionality, efficiency, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of both physical and virtual hardware including those in lab environments and computers running on one or more operating systems using monitoring tools.
- Work with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with servers that are affecting other services.
- Execute, maintain, and promote Security Compliancy and Process Improvement processes and policies.
- Express and discuss technical topics effectively within a team environment.
- Conduct systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies.
- Carry out specific assignments to repair defects, perform upgrades, and preventative maintenance in the primary domain.
- Perform operating system and vendor software patching on servers.
- Run scripts and tools to automate repetitive processes and provide inputs for improvements.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network‑related interfaces on servers.
- Perform troubleshooting and do analysis of alerts on servers.
- Act as a key contributor in identifying, implementing, reviewing, approving, and analyzing new performance metrics to optimize the environment for efficiencies and identify additional improvement opportunities.
- Fully proficient in understanding various operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and UNIX.
- Intermediate knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and other networking concepts.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles, firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper‑V, or similar.
- Fully proficient knowledge of backup solutions and disaster recovery strategies.
