Suffolk County Parent Advocate (Part-time) 3 days/21 hours (Bilingual Spanish)

Program:
Suffolk County Preventive Services

Basic Function of Position:
To provide support and assistance to Preventive Services families who are participating the program.

• Work as an advocate for the preventive services clients and families
• Help teach parenting skills
• Help clients identify neighborhood resources
• Collaborate with caseworkers
• Regularly report on all activities performed for and/or with clients
• Provide support to the families in the program
• Assist families in connecting with community programs
• Assist in emergency situations
• Plan recreational activities with the clients
• Work Cell phone will be provided and must be on at all times for emergency/crisis situations
• Document work as required
• Administrative work as needed (filing, making copies, etc.)

• High School Diploma
• Experience with social services
• Bilingual Spanish a plus
• Valid NYS drivers license

• Be a team player.
• Have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization.
• Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change; forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families.
• Ability to set limits, maintain helping role, and intervene appropriately.
