Machine Operator
Some of the most legendary engines in the world run on parts only a skilled machinist can make.
Since 1833, Cooper Machinery Services has built and serviced equipment that keeps power, pipelines, and ships moving. As a Machinist IV in our Deer Park Service Shop, you'll work from blueprints to produce precision one-off parts and restore turbocharger components, using both CNC and manual machines. No two jobs look the same, and every part you finish goes back into the field.

- Machine parts to spec on CNC and manual equipment, including lathes, mills, and drills, and independently set up and run your assigned machines
- Repair and restore parts to support the turbocharger service business
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, job cards, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, quantities, and machining requirements
- Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs using software such as GibbsCAM and Mastercam
- Monitor feeds and speeds, adjust offsets (wear, geometry, cutter compensation), and troubleshoot machine, tooling, and programming issues to minimize downtime
- Inspect finished parts against prints and routing instructions, and complete the required documentation
- Apply the required surface finishes, then deburr and stamp parts to specification
- Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, jaws, and materials on the machine
- Follow all PPE and safety rules, and keep your work area clean and organized
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED
- 8–10 years of manual machining experience, ideally in oil & gas, power, heavy equipment, or automation & controls
- Advanced knowledge of precision measuring tools, including dial and Vernier calipers, , depth mics, and ball mics
- Strong trade math skills and the ability to work from complex drawings and specifications
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort across multiple types of metal-cutting machinery
- Ability to read and follow instructions, perform quality control, and work safely
- Clear verbal and written communication, with basic computer skills
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and work on your feet, including bending and kneeling
- Flexibility to adapt as work changes, and willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Forklift, pallet jack, and crane certifications
- Knowledge of oilfield assemblies and parts
- Hands-on CNC programming experience with GibbsCAM, Mastercam, or similar software
