Associate Counsel (Fort Lauderdale)

We are seeking an associate counsel to provide legal support on all phases of litigation, manage general liability and commercial claims, and advise corporate decision makers in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Responsibilities- Support in all phases of litigation; manage caseload of claims and lawsuits (general liability insured and commercial liability uninsured).
- Advising corporate decision makers and collaborating with internal attorneys, external counsel, and business stakeholders to ensure efficient case management, meticulous document preparation, and adherence to legal procedures and deadlines.
- Develop and maintain a litigation management system to track assignments to external counsel and insurers, court dates, time‑sensitive deadlines, and log status updates while ensuring compliance with retention policies.
- Respond to insurer information requests; create, disseminate and track responses to legal hold requests.
- Identify witnesses and documents responsive to subpoenas and discovery requests, secure them, and prepare responses.
- Conduct legal research and assist the VP, Chief Labor & Employment Counsel with enforcement of restrictive covenants involving former employees.
- Manage caseload of general liability and commercial claims, including learning essential issues, reviewing damage information, developing early and cost‑effective resolution strategies, retaining and managing external counsel, recommending loss reserves, communicating with General Counsel, maintaining oversight of third‑party claims administrators, preparing departmental reports, ensuring timely sourcing of witnesses and documents, analyzing facts for post‑mortem recommendations, reviewing invoices, and delivering presentations to operations.
- A JD from an accredited U.S. law school; licensed to practice law in at least one state and in‑house attorney in Florida.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a litigator or in an in‑house legal department managing claims and working with third‑party claims administrators or insurance carriers.
- Proficiency in litigation processes (arbitrations, trials), e‑discovery, and case‑management tools and systems.
- Knowledgeable about general liability and commercial claims law.
- Strong communication skills, self‑confident, good listener, independent, proactive learner, and open to constructive feedback.
