Utility Locates Technician

A. Smith & Associates is looking for Utility Locate Technicians. We are looking for people who are familiar with different types of EM (electromagnetic) equipment and have performed electromagnetic (EM) locates locating water, sewer, gas, electric, communications, for construction projects or 811 locate tickets.

• Accurately locate and mark underground utility lines using industry-standard equipment (e.g., electromagnetic and ground-penetrating radar tools). Must have knowledge of field equipment, such as Topcon E series, Trimble GPS, Trimble HDS and other day to day survey equipment. Perform various types of field surveys, including but not limited to: boundary, topographic, route, construction, ALTA and control surveys.
• Review and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and site plans to identify buried infrastructure. Complete all locate requests in a timely and efficient manner in compliance with regulatory and safety standards. Records must be clear and concise field notes.
• Maintain detailed records of work completed, including daily logs, digital records, and sketches. Represent the Company in the field to Clients and the Public in general, ensuring that work is performed to company standards and in a professional manner.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and company policies, including personal protective equipment (PPE) use and safe driving practices.
• Report any potential utility conflicts, damages, or abnormal conditions immediately to supervisors.
• Requirements:
  Must be reliable. Must be able to travel out of town. Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Must be Authorized to Work in the U.S.

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in utility locating is an asset.
• 3 yrs. previous experience in utility locating, surveying, or a related field is preferred.
• Familiarity with locating equipment and techniques (e.g., electromagnetic induction, GPR).
• Ability to read and interpret utility maps, construction drawings, and schematics.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and performing physical tasks.

In person, 1425 East Newport Center Drive, Deerfield Beach, FL 33442

Location:

Deerfield Beach office. Work is mostly outside in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

Job Type: Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $20.62-$24.00/hr., depends on experience
