The Opportunity

Coastal Pipeline Inc. is seeking a hardworking Underground Utility Pipe Layer Assistant & Hillman to join our elite underground utility crews operating across Deerfield Beach, Broward County, and Palm Beach County.

In this vital hands-on field role, you will work directly alongside Pipe Layer Foremen and main-line pipelayers—staging pipes, handling fittings, rigging materials for heavy equipment drops, and preparing trench bottoms for water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage installations. Working with a stable, family-owned utility contractor built on field craftsmanship and safety, you will gain technical experience with pressure pipe, gravity systems, and trench shoring setups.

If you bring 2 or more years of experience as a hillman or pipelayer assistant in underground utilities, a strong safety mindset, and a desire to advance into a lead pipelayer or foreman role, Coastal Pipeline Inc. provides steady year-round work, weekly pay, and clear career growth tracks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pipe Staging & Trench Assistance:
Handle, clean, inspect, and stage ductile iron (DIP), PVC (C900/SDR 26), and concrete storm pipes alongside the trench to ensure smooth placement by the pipe crew.
  • Hillman & Rigging Support:
Rig pipe sections, valves, hydrants, precast structures, and trench boxes safely using slings and chokers for excavator crane drops into active trenches.
  • Material & Fitting Assembly:
Assist top-man and lead pipelayer with mechanical joint (MJ) fittings, restraint glands, gaskets, lubrication, and laser alignment targets.
  • Trench Safety & Shoring Setup:
Maintain strict OSHA trench safety protocols—setting up trench boxes, aluminum hydraulic shoring, ladder access, and spoil pile setbacks.
  • Inventory & Material Tracking:
Track daily jobsite materials, verify delivery shipments, monitor fitting counts, and report supply needs to the pipe crew foreman.
  • Ditch Maintenance & Site Cleanliness:
Grade stone bedding, shovel trench bottoms, execute manual backfill compaction, and maintain a clean, safe jobsite environment.
