Overview
The Capital One Legal department is seeking a Risk Manager for its Legal Risk Office. This role will involve leading efforts to ensure that Legal risk processes and work are robust, well-managed, and continuously improved while also driving initiatives to assess and manage risk within defined boundaries.
In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, execution, and oversight of various components within Legal's risk management programs. This includes adapting to evolving requirements, ensuring quality assurance, and providing comprehensive reporting to facilitate risk governance and decision-making. Your efforts will ensure the department is optimally positioned to maximize its value to Capital One.
Responsibilities- Independently lead Legal risk management programs
- Crucially, you will manage and develop a small, high-performing team of risk professionals, fostering their growth and ensuring their collective expertise contributes to the team’s success
- Deliver components of complex risk management integration efforts
- Consult with and influence teams across Legal and Risk to design strategy and methodology for managing execution of Legal’s risk management deliverables, while fostering partnerships built on collaboration, mutual respect, and openness to new ideas
- Manage multiple initiatives independently spanning diverse organizations
- Ensure consistent and effective escalation of risk-related items where needed
- Set and manage to robust efficiency and quality targets for owned programs, while building and executing mechanisms for measuring and reporting on risk levels, program effectiveness, process health and other key metrics
- Be a central point of contact for Legal on risk-related topics and deliver communications to department on risk-related topics
- Consult with Legal senior management on consistent approaches to Legal’s risk management programs, and report on findings to senior management
- Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
- At least 3 years of experience in risk management, project management, process management or a combination
- At least 2 years of people management experience
- 5+ years of experience in risk management, project management, consulting and/or process management
- 3+ years of experience as a people manager
- Strong communication, organization, problem solving and strategic thinking skills
- Relevant risk or project management, and/or process certifications
- 3+ years experience influencing senior level executives
- 2+ years of experience in Data Management, Reporting and Business Process Management
- Experience working with Legal, Audit and/or Corporate Governance functions

This role is hybrid meaning associates spend 3 days per week in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting. Fridays are enterprise wide virtual work days. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are options for in-person days for associates to spend time together working in our beautifully-designed team areas.
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Risk Manager
New York, NY: $165,700 - $189,200 for Risk Manager
Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Risk Manager
Riverwoods, IL: $138,100 - $157,700 for Risk Manager
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
