Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing mechanical, electrical, and process system maintenance to support plant operations. The role requires troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs of equipment such as pumps, vacuum systems, forklifts, and chemical injection lines. The technician must work safely, follow SOPs, and communicate progress to the Maintenance Manager or Supervisor.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate mechanical and electrical skills to maintain plant operating efficiencies.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and maintain all plant equipment and systems to repair or rebuild.
  • Repair or rebuild plant vacuum pumps, gearboxes, valves, steam regulating valves, pneumatic cylinders, and other pumps.
  • Repair forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Perform maintenance and preventive maintenance on plant CIP systems, AZO systems, mixing/dryer systems, chemical injection systems, air compressors, boiler systems, city water systems, ammonia systems, and packaging equipment.
  • Conduct industrial electrical testing and troubleshooting for 4‑20 mA, 12/24/48/120/240/480‑volt circuits, pressure/selector switches, float switches, relays, and high‑voltage components.
  • Repair and maintain packaging systems, pressure systems, boiler equipment, process systems, and fixtures per manufacturer specifications.
  • Observe equipment performance, evaluate issues, and make repair or replacement decisions.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance using internal systems and procedures.
  • Fabricate equipment following piping/equipment diagrams and specifications.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge from manufacturer/equipment manuals.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in an orderly, clean condition.
  • Work safely and professionally at all times.
  • Assist Engineering/Maintenance personnel on internal plant projects and system installations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management or supervision.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform accurate calibrations on PLCs, valves, and sensors.
Requirements
  • GED or equivalent.
  • Maintain proficiency in all described duties.
  • Pass a written test with a score of at least 75%.
  • Pass DOE certification within one year of successfully passing the written test.
  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • Follow written and oral instructions and communicate clearly with Plant Engineering, Operations Management/Supervisors, and external vendors.
  • Self‑disciplined, team player, able to handle emergency situations.
  • Maintain personal cleanliness and follow GMPs.
  • Demonstrate independent initiative to solve problems and correct them.
  • Proficient in mechanical rebuilding (valves, pumps, major equipment overhauls).
  • Diagnose and repair defect equipment in boilers, city water, ammonia/pressure systems, air compressors, and packaging operations.
  • Use electrical testing equipment and volt/amp meters.
  • Apply industrial electricity knowledge, troubleshoot and repair electrical components.
  • Read and understand piping, construction layouts, equipment specifications, and troubleshooting charts.
  • Weld stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel per company specifications.
Working Conditions
  • Continuous physical activity including climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lb.
  • Operate equipment such as computers, drafting tools, and scientific meters.
  • Distinguish colors as required.
  • Work in a plant environment with temperatures and noise above ambient level and exposure to chemicals and high‑speed moving parts.
  • Wear appropriate safety equipment: safety glasses, shoes, respirators, gloves, and other required protective gear.
  • Work in confined spaces when necessary.
  • Exposure to wet, slippery floors, steam, and heated water.
