Accounting Assistant
The Account Tech I – Utility Billing & Licensing works in the Finance Department as a first point of contact for the City. You’ll assist residents, businesses, outside agencies, and employees both in-person and over the phone—providing friendly, knowledgeable service while handling sensitive information with care.
This role performs various functions including utility billing, licensing, cash receipting, and clerical support. This is a full-time position represented under AFSCME and works a 37.5 workweek. Standard works hours will be Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. The starting payrate is $22.342 per hour.

What You’ll Do:- Greet and assist customers with utility accounts, billing questions, and payments.
- Process new accounts, terminations, and delinquent notices.
- Collect payments (cash, check, card) and balance cash drawers daily.
- Post transactions, prepare billing files, and update rates.
- Assist the public and business owners with inquiries regarding licensing requirements and the annual renewal processes.
- Coordinates the Utility Assistance Program.
- Provide front desk coverage and general office support.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Supplemental coursework in accounting a plus!
- A minimum of one year of experience in clerical, accounting, municipal or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with basic accounting knowledge.
- Comfortable handling money and working with computer systems.
- Strong customer service background and excellent communication skills.
