EVS Tech II
At Northwestern Medicine, a patient‑first approach defines our culture. As an integral part of the Environmental Services team, you will help maintain clean and safe environments throughout the hospital system.
Hours3:00 pm – 11:30 pm, with flexible scheduling to cover call‑offs, vacations, leaves of absence, and other needs. Hours are not guaranteed and may vary.
Responsibilities- Cleans and maintains patient rooms, offices, public areas, treatment rooms, and other assigned areas daily; includes trash removal, bed‑linen changes, and sanitizing all surfaces.
- Follows policies and procedures on patient isolation and contact precautions as needed.
- Stocks paper items and other supplies in assigned areas as necessary or designated.
- Maintains cart and equipment in clean, working condition and stores in appropriate storage area.
- Promotes safety, using wet‑floor signs, PPE, and ensuring housekeeping carts or supplies are not left unattended.
- Uses chemicals and equipment safely, diluting at correct ratios and labeling containers properly.
- Notifies supervisor of equipment needing repairs; reports all safety hazards to manager.
- Communicates issues, such as inability to meet the schedule, and proactively addresses observed deficiencies, reporting to supervisor/manager or Call Center and picking up debris outside the regular work area.
- Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with hospital personnel while ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
- Articulates design scripting models to each customer served.
- Efficiently uses organizational and unit/department resources.
- Manages work schedule efficiently, completing tasks and assignments on time.
- Contributes to continuous‑improvement opportunities and processes.
- Participates in cost‑reduction, workflow streamlining, and service improvement efforts.
- Exhibits a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.
- Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers; addresses questions and concerns promptly or directs them appropriately.
- Uses effective service‑recovery skills to resolve problems or service breakdowns.
- Demonstrates teamwork by helping coworkers across departments; communicates effectively, respects diverse opinions and styles, and acknowledges others’ contributions.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Effective communication with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Proficiency with the department’s tracking and communication tools.
- Independence in performing tasks.
- Physical demands: lift/carry up to 50 pounds and a push/pull force up to 50 pounds.
- One to three years of environmental services experience in a healthcare or hospitality environment.
