Position Summary

This position is for a candidate interested in working with and providing instruction to students with disabilities in a Special Education or General Education setting. The candidate must understand a wide range of disabilities, including but not limited to, Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability, Emotional Disturbance, Other Health Impairment, Hard of Hearing/Deaf and Visual Impairment. The candidate must have some knowledge and/or experience with Behavior Modification Strategies, I.D.E.A. and Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support.

Compliance, confidentiality and communication are required characteristics of an individual in this position.

Qualification Requirements
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four‑year college or university
  • Special Education teaching certificate;
    Mild/Moderate Certificate and/or Severe/Profound Certificate
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil per their IEP services.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, individually and in small group, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports per IEP and District requirements.
  • Communicates with parents through IEP conferences and other means to discuss pupils progress and interpret the school program.
  • Maintains professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the district and self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Supervises pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Completes all paperwork, district and state special education forms, in a timely manner so Federal compliance timelines are met.
  • Works with the General Education regular classroom teacher to provide appropriate accommodations for students on an IEP.
  • Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.
Language And Grammar Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.
