This position oversees the management of consultant design projects to successfully deliver complex infrastructure projects as part of the Department's Work Program. Responsibilities include managing consultant teams, contract budgets, project scope, and engaging with the public on transportation decisions throughout the project lifecycle. The role involves overseeing the production of high-quality deliverables on schedule and within budget, engaging with stakeholders, and fostering teamwork during project design.

Annual Salary Range:
$65,984.53 - $85,391.74
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Manage design projects with general supervision, assigned to consultant firms, including rural highway capacity, interstate resurfacing, urban arterial resurfacing, bridge rehabilitation and replacement, mobility projects (rail, park and ride lots).
- Coordinate work phases among consultants and disciplines (Right of Way, Testing Lab, Traffic Operations, Planning, Drainage, etc.) to maintain schedules and deadlines.
- Review work packages such as Line & Grade submittals, Plans, Reports, and technical documents from consultants.
- Serve as contract manager for assigned projects, developing scope of services, coordinating activities, reviewing invoices, and negotiating agreements.
- Stay updated on design processes, policies, and procedures relevant to consultant contracts and plans production.
- Advise and assist consultants on geometric design, traffic analysis, plan calculations, and engineering policies.
- Monitor project costs and work with Program Management to ensure implementation of the Work Program.
- Attend meetings, conduct field reviews, communicate with stakeholders, and provide project status reports.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- FDOT Project Management policies and procedures.
- Transportation project development, design, and construction principles, laws, and regulations.
- Engineering design, operations, and problem-solving techniques.
Skills in:
- Using engineering tools and instruments.
- Monitoring schedules and coordinating design phases.
- Working with the public, consultants, officials, and agencies.
- Reviewing and negotiating contracts, claims, and extensions.
- Managing priorities, budgets, and project requirements.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Developing scope of services and staff estimates.
- Reviewing technical data and reports.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
- Respond to emergencies as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with four years of employment experience, or three years of higher education with 72 semester hours or 108 quarter hours.
