$59,062.09 - $76,433.30

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Performs engineering review and analysis and develop traffic engineering reports and associated documents (work orders, traffic regulations, signal operating plans, traffic studies, sign designs, etc.) This includes field assessments, applying engineering principles and judgment to identify operational and safety deficiencies and appropriate remedial action. Includes participation in meetings and presentations, coordination with Department staff, affected external agencies and customers. Includes coordination of resources necessary to implement remedial action.

Assist in the maintenance of traffic features in the Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI) and traffic operations related databases. This includes features relating to traffic signals, speed limits etc.; such as begin and ending milepost, support systems, number of connections, etc.

Participate in meetings with internal and external customers to represent Traffic Operations interests. Includes providing useful commentary and review of work products. Includes correspondence and follow-up contact as needed.

Assist in the review of plan submittals generated by the Department and other entities. This includes ensuring plan submittals adhere to the Department's safety and design standards.

Track and assist in the review of all permit submittals that are submitted to the District Traffic Operations Office. This includes reviewing access management permits for compliance with State Highway System Connection Permit Rule 14-96 and State Highway System Access Management Classification System and Standards Rule 14-97.

Assist in the administration of the Districtwide Traffic Signal Maintenance and Compensation Program. This includes maintaining field inventory, initiating and maintaining agreements, work program management, and verification of billing and reimbursement documentation.

Assist with various contract management duties to include the oversight and administration of various contracts relevant to the District Traffic Operations Office. This includes consultant services, construction, and maintenance contracts.

Utilizing the Department's Microstation and Geopak Computer Aided Drafting and Design programs and other software as needed, design and prepare scaled drawing plan sheets for use in implementing traffic operations projects on the State Highway System.

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Traffic engineering concepts, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques.
  • The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Florida Department of Transportation standards, manuals, guidelines and practices.
Skills in:
  • The use of personal computers and a variety of engineering software.
  • Communication, including written, verbal and effective listening.
Ability to:
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, design standards, and manuals.
  • Apply engineering concepts, practices and functions.
  • Input and retrieve information from a computer database.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret engineering data.
  • Work independently and make decisions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
