Under general direction, this position plays a vital role in keeping the City’s computer systems and sensitive information secure in accordance to industry standard. The incumbent recommends, develops and maintains best policies, procedures and practices for the security and integrity of the computer systems, and will be responsible to inform and train City employees on security.
Job Description DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Monitors computer networks for security issues.
- Investigates security breaches and other cyber security incidents.
- Installs security measures and operates software to protect systems and information infrastructure, including firewalls and data encryption programs.
- Documents security breaches and assesses any damages caused.
- Performs tests and uncovers network vulnerabilities.
- Fixes detected vulnerabilities to maintain a high-security standard.
- Recommends and develops city‑wide best practices for IT security.
- Helps install security software and understand information security management.
- Researches and recommends security enhancements.
- Stays up‑to‑date on information technology trends and security standards to become the subject matter expert.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science or related field with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in IT operations including one (1) year of experience in cybersecurity work.
- Or Associate degree in Computer Science, Math or related area with three (3) years of experience in IT operations including two (2) years of experience in cybersecurity.
- Or a high school diploma from an accredited institution supplemented by special programming courses in one or more computer languages and four (4) years of experience in IT operations including two (2) years of experience in cybersecurity.
- An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with other employees, department heads and various departments.
- Ability to develop and maintain good personal relationships with other employees.
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow and apply common sense, understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
- Exercise independent judgment in the performance of specifically assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to evaluate analyst requirements, and develop methods and procedures necessary to accomplish objectives.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of firewalls, antivirus and IDPS concepts.
- Knowledge of information security engineering methods and technologies for IT infrastructure, web, mobility, and WAN and LAN networking.
- Knowledge of researching and analyzing information security technologies and processes to meet complex operational needs.
- Understands patch management.
- Ability to direct, control and plan development of IT security programs that will meet current and future needs.
- Interpret workflow charts, program problems and understand machine logic and languages.
- Make decisions based on factual data or evaluate adequacy of completed programs.
- Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and present ideas clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
- Lifting: up to 45 lbs.
- Vision: 20/20 or corrected to 20/100.
