this is a senior attorney position in our district 5 chief counsel’s office. The position will be responsible for providing legal counsel and representation of the department in all phases of the acquisition of right-of-way for transportation facilities. This includes representation in all phases of eminent domain proceedings, such as research, preparation of pleadings, discovery, preparation of witnesses, hearings, settlement negotiations, and trial.

The attorney will also prepare real estate conveyance documents, defend the department in claims of inverse condemnation, and provide support to department attorneys in claims and litigation against and by the department.

you will be a part of the office of the general counsel statewide team and will work in our district 5 chief counsel’s office located at 719 south woodland boulevard, deland, florida 32720.

annual salary range:

$80,000.00 - $90,000.00

• provide legal counsel and representation in all phases of right‑of‑way acquisition.
• represent the department in all phases of eminent domain proceedings.
• prepare real estate conveyance documents.
• defend the department in claims of inverse condemnation.
• research state and federal statutes, court cases, rules, and regulations affecting right‑of‑way acquisition operations.
• advise right‑of‑way offices on legal powers, duties, and policy implementation.
• assist in responding to public records requests and subpoenas.

knowledge of:

• litigation and civil rules of procedure and practice and government in the sunshine law.
• the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communications.
