Baker is responsible for safely and efficiently preparing and baking cakes, pastries and specialty bakery goods, including those found in Mexico, Central America and other regions. Provides extraordinary customer service to meet the goals and objectives of the department.

DUTIES:
  • Smile and greet all customers while providing extraordinary customer service.
  • Assist customers with special bakery and cake orders in store or over the phone.
  • Be aware of oven and proofer temperatures and communicate any temperature discrepancies to bakery manager.
  • Communicate to department management when ingredients, supplies and baked goods are needed, to ensure adequate product for customers.
  • Ensure all bakery products are prepared with consistency in quality, appearance, and weight according to Vallarta Supermarkets guidelines.
  • Ensure favorable department image with customers by maintaining a clean, attractive and friendly department.
  • Establish baking time settings on ovens ensuring that baked goods are removed from ovens when done, and removed for the next process.
  • Follow company price book unless directed otherwise by bakery manager, department supervisor, or corporate office.
  • Assist in maintaining display cases, and countertops clean, organized and presentable.
  • Prepare dough, batters, and mixtures for various breads, cakes, and pastry products as needed, according to Vallarta Supermarket recipes and/or authorized by department supervisor.
  • Accurately prepare merchandise for sale (pack, weigh, and price) adhering to Company policy.
  • Promote sales by suggestive selling.
  • Assist in the stocking and rotation of baked goods to ensure freshness according to company procedures and guidelines as needed.
  • Transport product to and from coolers and storage areas.
  • Clean work area; sweep and mop floors, wash bakery equipment, supplies and utensils.
  • Communicate unsafe acts by team members, and or unsafe conditions, or equipment immediately to bakery manager.
  • Follow all health code regulations; ensure the highest standards of food safety, personal hygiene, and sanitation are followed and practiced according to health department regulations.
  • Follow and practice Bakery Safety Program on the proper levels to use of approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Follow company safety policies and communicate to management of any team member not in compliance.
  • Abide by all store rules, and Company policies as stated in Company’s Team member Handbook.
  • Contact your bakery manager, store director or bakery supervisor regarding any questions, problems, or concerns.
  • Assist in minimizing any wastes in bakery products.
  • Keep key personnel advised of whereabouts at all times.
  • Report team member injuries and or team member complaints of misconduct to bakery manager, store director, or department supervisor.
  • Take rest breaks and meal periods as assigned and in accordance to Company policy.
  • Treat co-workers and customers respectfully at all times. Do not use obscene and/or profane language while working.
  • Work as a team member; assist and train coworkers when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL

SKILLS:
  • Must have a good attitude, friendly and courteous personality, and enjoy working with the public.
  • Knowledge of how to prepare and bake various kinds of baked goods (Mexican, Central American, and American).
  • Be familiar with the care and use of professional bakery equipment, tools and ovens.
  • Willingness to learn new recipes and techniques.
  • Must be able to count and perform simple math calculations.
  • Basic understanding of English language.
