As a Field Service Technician‑Network you will install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain telecommunications products and equipment that TDS sells and leases, including Key Systems, PBX, Centrex, and other business systems. You will perform work associated with splicing and maintaining outside plant facilities and equipment, installing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining aerial, buried, and underground fiber‑optic and copper cable. You will have direct, face‑to‑face contact with customers and are expected to be proactive in selling TDS services and products across Telephony, Video/CATV/DBS, Internet, and high‑speed networks.

You will exceed customer expectations by providing exceptional service, identifying customer needs, and offering appropriate communications solutions.

Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements

The individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Delavan, WI warehouse located at 120 S Wright St – Delavan, WI 53115.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with and perform on‑site installation, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone equipment and general network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber‑optic/copper facilities, and other TDS products and services for new and existing customers.
  • Identify location of defective cable using test equipment and repair buried, aerial, underground, or customer cable; locate and mark company underground and buried facilities to prevent damage.
  • Perform cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
  • Provide troubleshooting support techniques and corrections, responding to “trouble” dispatches.
  • Support enhancement and maintenance of record systems (cross‑connects, line groups, network elements, etc.).
  • Provide excellent customer service and proactively educate and sell TDS products and services to customers.
  • Gain working knowledge of RUS Standards and grounding practices associated with splicing and maintenance of outside plant facilities and equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience – or.. current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
  • 6+ months of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation, or switch training.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
Other Qualifications
  • Upon hire, successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, including a background check administered by the customer if required.
  • Available for on‑call/standby responsibilities; may require occasional travel and overtime.
  • Successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum and maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a combined GVRW of >10,000 lbs.
  • Strong technical understanding of fiber and copper plant installation and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of telecommunication products and services (inside wiring/cable, internet/intranet, bonding & grounding, data & computers/transmission concepts, fiber‑optic transmission, static sensitive equipment, color codes, structured wiring, video/CATV/DBS installation, inventory systems, cable locating, battery maintenance, key systems/PBX, centrex, switch maintenance, voicemail, special circuits, fiber terminals, subscriber CXR terminals, T‑1s, ISPs, DSL, ISDN voice & data, testing & certifying loops to support data, voice, and/or video).
  • Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications (Databases, trouble/repair/dispatch systems, plant record systems, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Explorer, CD‑ROMs).
  • Work and make decisions independently with little or no supervision; proven organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
