Summary:
The Sterile Products Lead Technician is a health care employee that performs specific job responsibilities authorized by the Delaware Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Responsibilities- Sterile Products Production:
Demonstrates competency as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and an Advanced CPhT. Oversees day-to-day activities for sterile products preparation area, including batch production, environmental monitoring, cleaning schedules, and workflow for the area. Ensures batches are prepared and delivered in a timely manner. - Performance Improvement / Patient Safety:
Provides qualitative and quantitative results related to operational aspects of the sterile products area. Monitors and trends errors and near misses to create a safe patient care environment. Works with pharmacy leadership to implement workflow changes and provides feedback for Technician Performance evaluations. Participates in the Oncology Pharmacy Workgroup. - Regulatory Compliance:
Monitors daily compliance with USP Chapter 797. This includes staff training, environmental controls, testing, and communication with Pharmacy Leadership. Maintains logs and documents for inspection. Ensures IV Clean Room and laminar flow hoods / isolators are inspected and tested as recommended. Monitors regulatory verification of outsourcing vendors and keeps compliance documents on file. - USP Chapter 800 Compliance (Hazardous waste):
Oversees policies related to handling hazardous drugs, controls, decontamination, spill control, and documentation. - Educational Resource:
Provides training and competency development for all pharmacy staff and maintains a competency file. Works with clean room technology to ensure operational efficiency. - All other duties as assigned within the scope of job responsibilities.
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED; formal education related to sterile compounding and USP chapter 797 (e.g., ASHP competence). - Credential(s):
Certified Pharmacy Technician;
Compounded Sterile Preparation Tech (CSPT) certification within 1 year of hire if not already obtained. - Experience:
Three years’ experience IV compounding in a hospital setting.

Associate Degree - Experience:
Five years of experience as a hospital pharmacy technician (preferred).
