Sterile Products Lead Technician

Bayhealth invites applications for a Sterile Products Lead Technician in Sussex Campus Hospital. This is a full‑time, 80‑hour position with variable shift patterns and a competitive hourly salary ranging from $23.90 to $35.85.

General Summary

The Sterile Products Lead Technician performs specific job responsibilities authorized by the Delaware Board of Pharmacy Rules and regulations under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Responsibilities
  • Sterile Products Production:
    Demonstrate competency as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and an Advanced CPhT; oversee day‑to‑day activities for the sterile products preparation area; maintain batching schedules and ensure timely preparation.
  • Performance Improvement / Patient Safety:
    Provide qualitative and quantitative operational results; monitor and trend errors and near‑misses; implement workflow changes; participate in the Oncology Pharmacy Workgroup; provide feedback on technician performance.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Monitor compliance with USP Chapter 797, including staff training, environmental controls, and sterility testing; maintain compliance documents; coordinate with leadership to address non‑compliance.
  • USP Chapter 800 Compliance:
    Oversee hospital policies and procedures related to hazardous drug handling, decontamination, spill control, and documentation.
  • Educational Resource:
    Deliver training and competency development for all pharmacy staff; maintain a competency file for each employee; work with clean‑room technology to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED; formal national education related to sterile compounding and USP Chapter 797 (e.g., ASHP competence).
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician;
    Compounded Sterile Preparation Tech Certification in 1 year; must obtain CSPT within 1 year of hire if not already obtained.
  • At least three years of IV compounding experience in a hospital setting.
Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience
  • Associate Degree.
  • Preferred:
    Five years of experience as a hospital pharmacy technician.
