Employment type:

Full Time (72 Hours biweekly), Shift: Nights 12-Hour shifts

General Summary

5B at the Bayhealth Sussex campus is a 24‑bed Progressive Care Unit. The unit features private rooms, 5 ICU headboards, and participates in Nurse Governance, Nurse Residency, and has excellent teamwork and leadership.

The Clinical Coordinator is a member of the management team who assists the Nurse Manager with daily operations on a 24-hour basis. The Coordinator actively participates in direct patient care, provides direct supervision, rotates weekend/holiday shifts, participates in employee selection, scheduling, and development of clinical and budgetary standards, and leads unit-based work groups such as PI and unit committees.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate the ability to collect relevant patient healthcare data: prioritize data collection, collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, document collected data, and use a systematic process.
  • Analyze data to determine patient needs: assess data, interact with patients and the healthcare team, prioritize and document expected outcomes, and develop a plan of care.
  • Identify individualized, expected outcomes for the patient that are realistic, culturally appropriate, measurable, and documented.
  • Develop a plan of care with specific interventions to attain expected outcomes, collaborating with the healthcare team and ensuring continuity of care.
  • Implement interventions, minimize complications, encourage patient and family participation, and document interventions.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes: use systematic, criterion‑based evaluation, involve relevant team members, revise plan of care as needed, evaluate effectiveness, and document responses.
  • Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice: participate in performance improvement activities, use results to initiate changes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of professional practice standards, laws, and regulations; engage in self‑assessment and seek constructive feedback.
  • Acquire and maintain current knowledge: participate in ongoing education and new clinical information.
  • Collaborate with peers and other healthcare providers to create a caring environment, communicate effectively, and assist in referrals.
  • Apply current concepts in clinical research and evidence to practice; participate in committees to refine clinical practice.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost when planning care; delegate appropriately under the Delaware State Nurse Practice Act.
Accountability Highlights
  • Provides patient care management on the unit, rotating shifts to promote 24‑hour visibility.
  • Ensures compliance with nursing process and standards by staff, serving as a role model.
  • Develops and evaluates nursing standards and protocols for safe, effective, compassionate care.
  • Coordinates direct patient care and participates in unit-based quality improvement initiatives.
  • Delegates, organizes, and coordinates unit activities fairly and consistently.
  • Maintains professional practice through participation in work groups, continuous education, and coaching staff.
  • Supports personnel management, including staff selection, performance appraisal, and orientation.
  • Supports fiscal management by adhering to budgetary standards and identifying cost‑effective care improvements.
  • Promotes service excellence, follows JCAHO and Bayhealth policies, and achieves department/unit quality objectives.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience
  • Education:

    Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
  • Credential:
    Registered Nurse, Basic Life Support.
  • Experience:

    One year in related practice (preferred: three years).
