The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care to patients within patient care services on medical‑surgical units. After competency verification, the LPN may deliver patient care services to adult and geriatric populations. Care may include monitoring vital signs, drawing blood, administering medications, and assisting with procedures such as dressing changes and bathing.

• Read and interpret doctors’ orders, medication names, and lab tests. Perform focal assessments for established inpatients.
• Provide basic nursing care such as positioning, turning, and assisting with toileting and weighing.
• Provide exceptional customer service aligned with Planetree philosophy.
• Perform routine treatment procedures, obtain vital signs, and record intake and output.
• Prepare and administer oral medications and maintenance IV fluids under RN direction.
• Assist with minor medical/surgical procedures.
• Perform venipuncture and monitor blood draws.
• Transport patients using wheelchair or stretcher.
• Educate patients on treatment plans.
• Recognize abnormal lab results and document patient care.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA.
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission regulations and safe storage of medications.
• Re‑order supplies and maintain workstation cleanliness.
• Engage in annual self‑assessment and professional development.
• Participate in educational activities such as BLS and NAPPI.
• Collaborate with peers and contribute to team learning environment.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
• Assist physician/surgeon by scrubbing in for operating room cases when trained.

• Education:
  
  Certificate or Diploma Program for Licensed Practical Nurse or equivalent RN credit hours.
• Credential:
  Basic Life Support BLS and Licensed Practical Nurse LPN or NRP within 4 months of hire.
• Experience:
  
  Acute care LPN and/or scrub experience preferred but not required.

• Education:
  
  Associate Degree.
• Credential:
  Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and/or other certifications.
• Experience:
  
  2 or more years LPN experience.
