Long Term Substitute for High School Intervention Specialist
Position: Intervention Specialist
Reports to: Building Principal, Assistant Principal, or Director of Pupil Personnel
Employment Status: Regular/Full-time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Description: Facilitates the education of students with multiple needs by developing, implementing, and evaluating special education Individual Education Plans.
NOTE:
Below are not ranked in order of importance.
- Monitor the safety of students and ensure that students are supervised in a manner appropriate for their age, disability, and IEP requirements.
- Effectively manage the classroom and student behavior to maintain an effective learning environment.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required.
- Guide students to promote educational development.
- Attend parent/teacher conferences.
- Collaborate with colleagues.
- Appropriately assess student learning.
- Provide daily plans for substitute.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Assist administration in implementing building procedures.
- Take necessary and responsible precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations using a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners.
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.
- Attend meetings and in‑service as required by negotiated agreement.
- Attend field trips.
- Teach students using sound instructional strategies.
- Observe ethics of teaching.
- Meet all required IEP/ETR deadlines.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate daily learning activities based on student Individual Education Plans and student’s needs.
- Produce, manage, and complete the necessary documentation for charting student educational progress.
- Participate in a team approach for the development of Individual Education Plans and behavior management plans as needed.
- Communicate with parents and support agencies.
- Provide direction and training to teaching assistants/paraprofessionals in a classroom setting.
- Assist in the selection of program materials as needed.
- Promote good public relations and serve as a role model for students.
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
- Participate in training/professional development as required by state or local policy.
- Supervise student teachers as agreed.
- Maintain current professional licensure.
- Schedule home visits and team meetings with staff and guardians.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
