Nature of Work, Essential Functions & KSA's
Under the general supervision of the Parks Superintendent, immediate supervision of the Division Supervisor or lead crew member on a particular assignment perform park and cemetery grounds and facilities care and maintenance activities. Seasonal laborers may be assigned to any division within the Parks & Natural Resources department as a substitute for individuals on vacation, sick leave, etc., or during heavy workload periods.
On average, this position works 24-40 hours per week. Availability of work may be weather dependent. Applicants must be able to work varying hours, including evenings and weekends.
Knowledge
- Basic math (ex: ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers).
- Methods, materials, tools and standard practices regarding park, golf course and facility grounds maintenance.
- Traffic laws and rules involved in vehicle and equipment operation.
- Basic traffic control/barricade procedures.
- Standard safety protocols in the performance of essential functions as well as City policies regarding safe work practices.
- Use of equipment, machinery and hand/power tools used in department projects and activities.
- Follow written and oral instructions and to communicate effectively with the public and other employees.
- Understand simple roadmaps and City boundaries to establish ownership responsibilities.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations in order to calculate quantities, distances, measures and weights.
- Operate a motor vehicle and related equipment in a skilled and safe manner and in accordance with traffic laws and regulations.
- Perform work in a safe manner and report unsafe activities, conditions, and faulty equipment.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with fellow City staff, associates, contractors and the general public.
- Perform relatively heavy manual work for extended periods of time and ability to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions.
- Distinguish between different cleaning materials, fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides with the ability to read and understand label information.
- Utilize necessary protective clothing and equipment to avoid potential dangers from pesticides or poisonous vegetation.
