Engineering manager – Cloud and Infrastructure Engineering
Are you an engineering manager, ready to lead high-performing teams, drive results, and build strong engineering culture? You’ll guide teams in delivering reliable and scalable solutions, while ensuring alignment with company goals, engineering standards, and operational excellence.
You’ll provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams, ensuring adherence to SLAs, security standards, scalability, operational reliability, and engineering best practices. You’ll help teams improve how they plan, build, deploy, and operate software, while maintaining a healthy balance between delivery speed, quality, and long-term sustainability.
You’ll lead your teams in the planning process and ensure successful execution and timely delivery of solutions. You’ll also contribute to technical roadmap discussions, ensure dependencies are handled proactively, and help teams make pragmatic decisions around technical debt, operational improvements, and platform reliability. Our cloud and infrastructure landscape includes Azure, Terraform, AKS, Git Lab, virtualization technologies, deployment tooling, and many other internally developed platform components.
As our new Engineering Manager, you’ll excel at fostering professional growth and development. You’re an empathetic but clear leader who understands the importance of accountability, engagement, ownership, and continuous improvement. You know how to create an environment where engineers can perform at a high level, collaborate effectively, and continue to grow over time.
You’ll be adept at coaching and mentoring engineers, facilitating difficult conversations when needed, and supporting teams through change and operational challenges. You are comfortable managing both up and across teams, helping create alignment without unnecessary process or bureaucracy.
You will take charge of the staffing process, from hiring to assessments, ensuring you build strong and balanced teams. By effectively organizing and managing the teams, you’ll drive sustainable performance, productivity, and engagement. Your leadership will foster a collaborative environment with high standards, strong ownership, and a commitment to engineering excellence.
Where will you be working?At TOPdesk’s headquarters in Delft (minimum 3 days per week in the office). As an Engineering Manager, you’ll be part of the Cloud Operations leadership team that includes Product Managers and other Engineering Managers, all working together to oversee the Cloud Operations domain consisting of multiple engineering teams.
You will manage between 5 and 15 software engineers, architects, and testers, distributed across two engineering teams, ensuring alignment, team health, performance, and the successful delivery of key objectives. Our development teams are based in the Netherlands, Germany, and Hungary. You will be co-located with most of your team members in Delft, and you will report to the Head of Cloud Operations.
Qualifications- You have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical discipline. A master’s degree is a plus.
- You are proficient in English, ensuring clear communication across teams.
- You have a strong technical background in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or distributed systems.
- You have experience managing high-performing engineering teams in operationally critical environments.
- You bring strong coaching and mentoring skills and know how to help engineers grow while maintaining high expectations and accountability.
- You are comfortable creating clarity in complex technical and organizational environments.
- You have experience improving engineering processes, delivery effectiveness, and operational maturity.
- Your problem‑solving abilities allow you to tackle challenges pragmatically and make sustainable decisions under pressure.
- As a leader, you take a proactive approach to collaboration, stakeholder management, and organizational alignment. You have experience working with Product Managers, cross‑department projects, and variety of stakeholders.
- You have a technical background with a minimum of 5 years of experience, including 3 years in a leadership role.
Devote 10% of your working time and a budget equivalent to 10% of your gross annual salary to personal development.
Receive your full salary for 9 weeks + 50% of your salary for 17 weeks. Why? Because parenting is hard work.
