Job description
Vacancy for an Open Hardware Project Officer is part of a project funded by Open Science NL, aiming to integrate open hardware initiatives into a robust infrastructure called Open Source Hardware Infrastructure for the Netherlands (OSHNED).

As an Open Hardware Project Officer at TU Delft you will function as a central hub, responsible for identifying and making suitable ideas or completed hardware designs and prototypes available within the broader OSHNED ecosystem.

Key responsibilities include:

Open Hardware Coordinator and Promoter  – Identify hardware development sites within TU Delft suitable for transition to an open hardware platform, build and maintain a network of educators, researchers, and developers, conduct inventories, provide information, and establish necessary infrastructure.

Open Hardware Ambassador  – Organise training sessions and deliver presentations and workshops to increase knowledge about open hardware across the campus.

Subject Matter Expert  – Assess designs for suitability for inclusion in OSHNED regarding functionality, knowledge security, quality standards, legislation, and intellectual property, and serve as point of contact for open hardware questions.

Implementer  – Co‑manage the database of open hardware projects, collaborate with developers, researchers, and educators, develop templates and guidelines for the transition process, and contribute to drafting policy documents related to open hardware and DEMO operations.

Job requirements

Education:

Completed a technical degree at a Bachelor’s or Master’s level.

Experience:

Engineering environment experience as a developer, familiarity with documenting technical projects; experience as a project manager or team leader is an advantage.

Communication:
Able to communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical individuals, documenting concepts in writing, clear and tactful, tailored to stakeholders.

Attitude:
Affinity for open hardware, ability to zoom in and out, recognise organisational sensitivities, enjoy bringing groups together, networker, use technical background to make technology accessible.

Language:
Fluent in Dutch and English.

Conditions of employment

Duration of contract: 1 year.

Working hours:

20 hours per week.

Salary:
Scale 11 of the CAO for Dutch Universities, €4728 – €6433 gross per month (38‑hour basis), plus 8 % holiday allowance and 8.3 % end‑of‑year bonus.

Pension scheme: ABP.
