Postdoc Cell Engineering for Cultivated Meat

Job description'Cultivated meat' production from in vitro culture of animal cells is an emerging biotech. Higher eukaryotic cells have limitations that hinder scalability and cost-effectiveness. Cell engineering can address these challenges. We are hiring postdoctoral scientists to join the Flack group on a fully funded 2 year project. You will engineer and evolve bovine satellite cell lines with improved phenotypes such as suspension culture, signalling pathway activation and extended cellular lifespan.
You will characterise engineered lines using flow cytometry, microscopy, transcriptomics and related methods. You will have freedom to select and propose research projects, supervise PhD, MSc, BSc students, and engage in grant writing and funding acquisition. The role sits within The University of Technology Delft's research community.
- Engineer bovine satellite cell lines for improved physiological traits.
- Perform genetic manipulation including CRISPR/Cas and other gene editing techniques.
- Characterise engineered cells through flow cytometry, microscopy, transcriptomics, and related assays.
- Design and conduct experiments to improve suspension culture, signalling pathways, and cellular lifespan.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate students and contribute to their academic development.
- Prepare grant proposals and secure funding for research projects.
- Collaborate with industrial partners and external experts.
- Actively participate in a dynamic biotechnology and synthetic biology research environment.
- PhD in cell biology, synthetic biology or related biological sciences.
- Strong background in molecular biology, cloning, and genetic manipulation.
- Experience with gene editing and/or cell engineering such as CRISPR/Cas.
- Expertise in mammalian cell culture (desirable); experience in bacterial or yeast engineering also acceptable.
- Experience in microscopy, transcriptomics or metabolomics is highly desirable.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and project‑management skills.
- Contract duration: 2 years; temporary.
- Hours per week: 36‑40.
