Position: Postdoc Bipolar Membrane Development for Acid-Base Flow Battery Systems NL, 2628 CD)

Overview

Postdoc position focusing on acid-base flow batteries and stack engineering within a collaborative project with universities and industry partners. The role aims to develop bipolar membranes with high water dissociation efficiency, low resistance, and high selectivity, and to explore new materials and configurations to improve membrane performance. You will work closely with researchers at TU/Eindhoven and AQUABATTERY and will educate students in related courses.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new materials and membrane configurations to improve performance of acid-base flow batteries.
  • Study bipolar membranes for water dissociation, aiming for high efficiency and low electrical resistance, with high selectivity.
  • Collaborate with researchers at TU/Eindhoven and AQUABATTERY on membrane development.
  • Analyze directions for improvement and explore other membrane-related aspects and potential applications for the same materials.
  • Educate students in courses related to the research.
Job requirements
  • A PhD degree in chemical engineering or applied chemistry.
  • Proven experience with bipolar membranes.
  • Proven experience in nanostructures and catalytic membranes.
  • An excellent publication record.
  • Pro-active and creative mindset.
  • Fluent in English;
    Dutch language skills are a plus.
  • Starting date October 2026.

Location:

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft).

Conditions of employment
  • Duration of contract: 2 years (temporary).
  • Workload: 32-40 hours per week.
  • Salary and benefits in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
