Z​/VM Systems Programmer

A large global enterprise services client is seeking an experienced  IBM z/VM Systems Programmer  to support and enhance a complex, multi-tenant mainframe virtualization environment. The role focuses on operational stability, performance optimization, automation, and support of Linux on IBM Z workloads.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade  IBM z/VM  environments, including PTF management.
Administer  CP, CMS, spool, paging, and minidisk  configurations.
Manage  z/VM virtual networking  (VSWITCH, NICDEF, VLANs, routing/bridging).
Provision and support  Linux on IBM Z  guests (RHEL/SLES) under z/VM.
Perform performance monitoring, capacity planning, and tuning across CPU, memory, and I/O.
Support storage integrations including  FCP / SAN-attached storage .
Develop and maintain operational documentation, automation, and runbooks.
Provide L2/L3 support, incident/problem management, and participate in change activities.
Collaborate with global infrastructure teams (mainframe, storage, network, security).

Required Skills:

Strong hands-on experience with  IBM z/VM  in enterprise environments.
Deep understanding of  CP/CMS , guest lifecycle management, and resource allocation.

Experience with  VSWITCH and z/VM networking  concepts.
Performance analysis and troubleshooting expertise.
Experience supporting  Linux guests on IBM Z .
Comfortable working in  managed services / large client environments .

Nice-to-Have:

Dir Maint ,  SMAPI , RACF / ESM integration.
z/OS exposure or shared mainframe environments.
Experience supporting  banking or regulated enterprise clients .
Scripting / automation (REXX or similar).

Interview Focus:

Day-to-day z/VM operations and real incident examples.
Performance tuning and networking scenarios.
Change management and production support experience.
