Ethernet Network Engineer Architect

Role

The Ethernet Network Engineer Architect is responsible for designing, evolving, and governing high-scale Ethernet fabrics for modern data centers supporting AI/ML, HPC, and large-scale cloud workloads. The role owns end-to-end architecture for multi-tenant Spine-Leaf (Clos) networks using EVPN-VXLAN, RoCEv2 design for lossless transport, and BGP-based routing for predictable convergence. This individual serves as the technical authority for platform evaluation (400G/800G), optical strategy, standards, documentation, and mentorship across global deployments.

Core Responsibilities

Architect and evolve high-scale Spine-Leaf (Clos) fabrics using EVPN-VXLAN to provide a robust, multi-tenant infrastructure for thousands of nodes.

Lead the design and tuning of RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCEv2), including the configuration of Priority Flow Control (PFC) and Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) to ensure lossless delivery.

Design complex BGP-based routing architectures for massive scale-out and predictable convergence.

Drive the technical evaluation of 400G and 800G Ethernet platforms and high-density optical solutions.

Create standardized Handoff Templates and Low-Level Design (LLD) documents to ensure consistent deployments across global sites.

Serve as the primary technical authority for network strategy, evaluating long-term trends and providing cost-benefit analyses for new technology adoption.

Guide senior and staff engineers in troubleshooting complex Layer 3 issues and adopting automation-first mindsets.

Mandatory Skillset

Expert knowledge of BGP, OSPF, EVPN, VXLAN, and MCLAG, including design patterns for scale and resiliency.

Specialized skills in configuring PFC, ECN, and DCBX to support RoCEv2-based communication for GPU-to-GPU or GPU-to-Storage traffic.

Mastery of Network OS environments such as Junos, EOS, SONiC, or NX-OS, including advanced kernel tuning and ASIC-specific optimizations.

Advanced ability to analyze packet captures (tcpdump, Wireshark) and interpret hardware counters to resolve latency spikes or packet loss.

Hands-on experience building and operating data center Spine-Leaf fabrics and EVPN-VXLAN overlays in production.

Strong documentation skills, including authoring design standards, runbooks, and operational procedures.

Optional Skillsets

Experience with network automation and IaC (e.g., Ansible, Python, Nornir, Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines for network changes.

Familiarity with telemetry/observability stacks (streaming telemetry, gNMI, sFlow/Net Flow, Prometheus/Grafana) for proactive fabric health monitoring.

Knowledge of security and segmentation approaches for multi-tenant fabrics (VRFs, ACLs, micro-segmentation, MACsec).

Experience integrating data center networks with GPU clusters, distributed storage systems, and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes/Slurm).

Vendor evaluation experience including optics planning (OSFP/QSFP-DD), link budget analysis, and cabling standards for high-density deployments.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

8+ years of experience in data center networking, with 3+ years in an architecture/technical lead capacity.

Proven track record delivering large-scale EVPN-VXLAN and BGP-based designs in production environments.

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with ability to influence cross-functional teams and executive audiences.

Demonstrated mentorship and leadership experience, including establishing standards and best practices across teams.
