Salary:  £25,000 – £35,000 GBP per year (depending on experience)

Hands In is a fast-growing London-based fintech startup helping businesses recover lost revenue by enabling customers to split payments across multiple methods and time.
Our platform powers enterprise-level travel and airline clients, and we operate on a modern, fully cloud-native AWS stack. We are now entering the next stage of growth — building enterprise-grade secure, reliable, and compliant systems.

The Opportunity
We are looking for both a technical leader and a teacher.
Our product is proven. Now we need someone to mature our platform and infrastructure to the standards expected by enterprise partners and compliance frameworks.
As our first dedicated infrastructure hire, you will:
Audit our current architecture
Define what “enterprise-ready” looks like
Lead the technical roadmap for PCI DSS compliance
Raise the security maturity of the entire engineering team

Your Role
1. Security & Compliance
Lead technical implementation of PCI DSS requirements
Design secure network architecture and isolation strategies
Implement strong IAM boundaries and least-privilege policies
Drive encryption standards across data at rest and in transit
Partner with external auditors and internal stakeholders

2. Infrastructure as Code
Own our AWS infrastructure using SST + Type Script
Improve deployment reliability and environment consistency
Treat infrastructure as software, not configuration

3. Platform Stability & Scalability
Architect backend infrastructure for high-volume financial transactions
Improve reliability and fault tolerance across services
Optimise cloud architecture for scale and performance
Tech includes:
NestJS backend services
Postgre

SQL, Dynamo

DB, MongoDB

4. Mentorship & Engineering Standards
Act as the internal Security Champion
Mentor developers on secure coding practices
Define cloud architecture best practices
Raise security awareness across the team

Who You Are
5+ years in Backend, Platform Engineering, or Dev Ops
Strong production-level AWS experience
Comfortable building Infrastructure as Code using Type Script

Experience with SST, CDK, Pulumi, or similar
Hands-on experience with PCI DSS, SOC 2, or ISO 27001
Understand fintech-level security expectations
You care about business impact, not just technical elegance
Startup or product-company experience strongly preferred
Excellent written and spoken English
Able to explain complex security concepts clearly to non-specialists

Tech Stack
Experience building services in a cloud-native environment. (AWS preferred)
Strong proficiency in Type Script, Node, Git and CI/CD pipelines

Experience with backend frameworks such as NestJS, Express and popular libraries
Familiarity with modern React-based frameworks
Experience working with both relational and No

SQL databases

Working Arrangement
Fully Remote
Must overlap at least 4 hours daily with UK business hours for collaboration and meetings

You will define the security and platform foundation of a fintech product already trusted by enterprise clients. You will play a foundational role in launching Hands In towards enterprise-scale growth, and if successful, you will directly impact compliance, scalability, and the next stage of Hands In’s growth.
