Role OverviewThe Chief Communications Officer (CCO) primary duties are to write, edit and communicate content for Cowessess First Nations promotional materials, facilitate all media inquiries, and develop strategies to boost Cowessess First Nation brand. This position is responsible for writing and distributing news releases, feature stories, media advisories, and communicating directly with reporters and editors to ensure Cowessess First Nation messages make it into print and electronic media.
The CCO will oversee Paradise Radio Station and staffing levels and responsibilities, maintain and upkeep all equipment provided for communication purposes and perform any other duties defined by the Chief Executive Officer and Council. This position is under direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer and assists all departments with communication pieces for the Cowessess Community.
- Write, edit, and communicate content for Cowessess First Nations promotional materials.
- Facilitate all media inquiries and develop strategies to boost the brand.
- Write and distribute news releases, feature stories, and media advisories, and communicate directly with reporters and editors.
- Oversee Paradise Radio Station and staffing levels and responsibilities.
- Maintain and upkeep all communication equipment.
- Perform additional duties as defined by the Chief Executive Officer and Council.
- Assist all departments with communication pieces for the Cowessess Community.
- Diploma or certificate in Communications, Communications Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of Cowessess First Nation history is considered an asset.
- Understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, particularly as they relate to media and Indigenous Peoples.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in time-sensitive situations involving public scrutiny.
- Proven experience developing and implementing communications strategies, plans, and projects.
- Strong technical skills in graphic design, website development and maintenance (Word Press), email marketing systems, copywriting, proofreading, content creation, photo/video editing.
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Canva, and email marketing platforms; familiarity with standard office equipment.
- Knowledge of public relations principles, including the ability to write effective media releases.
